An example of missionary vocation
Saint Louis Versiglia, born in Oliva Gessi, left for Turin at only twelve years of age, where he undertook his studies at the Salesians. After attending the Faculty of Philosophy, he chose the path of the priesthood. His missionary spirit immediately led him to leave for China, in 1906, at a time of deep instability, especially for Christians. It was a long pilgrimage among forgotten villages and communities, until the tragic epilogue: in 1930 he was killed by bandits during one of his missions.
A simple but meaningful museum
The birthplace of St. Louis Versiglia is located near a small brick arch. On the façade of the building – once a workshop – stands a commemorative plaque. Inside, the museum houses photographs, documents and personal objects, witnesses to an intense existence devoted to service and altruism.
Although the rooms are not in the best condition, the atmosphere one breathes is charged with spirituality. To visit this place is to come into contact with a living memory, made up of sacrifice, silent dedication and deep faith.
