The Castellazzo di Montù Beccaria: from medieval fortress to home among the vineyards

A castle in the heart of the Oltrepò hills
Anyone looking at Montù Beccaria from the surrounding hills will immediately see, in the highest part of the village, the building where the castle once stood. A place that has gone through centuries of transformations, demolitions, reconstructions and changes of use, until today it has become a private residence with a timeless charm, known as the Castellazzo – a name also given to the hill on which it stands.
From the castle to Barnabite College
After losing its original fortifying features, the castle was used as a boarding school for the Barnabite fathers and later transformed into a noble palace. These transformations dramatically changed its appearance, but the historical imprint of the place remains alive within its walls.
The Vercesi family and the revival of Castellazzo
Today it is owned by the Vercesi family, also known for its prestigious winery. With great care and respect for the original structure, the family has carried out careful restoration work, restoring the complex to its dignity and charm and now boasting refined interiors and tastefully decorated rooms.
Breathtaking views of the Oltrepò vineyards
To reach the Castellazzo, walk along the road that leads to the higher part of the village. You then enter a courtyard adorned with arches and columns, where a church once stood. From here, a panoramic balcony offers exciting views of lush vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see. A place where history blends with the beauty of the landscape.
